Meeting information

Our Health Officer and Director report to the Board of Health on the fourth Thursday of January, April, July, and October at 8:30 a.m. Meetings are usually held in the Harbor Room of the Pearsall Building in Aberdeen and also include an online component - Zoom links are provided in each meeting agenda.

The public is invited to attend Board of Health meetings and opportunities for public comment are provided for both in-person and online participants.

What is the Board of Health?

The Grays Harbor County Board of Health is a local government body that regulates matters related to public health.

Local health jurisdictions in Washington State (including Grays Harbor County Public Health Department) are governed by both local and state regulations.

What does the Grays Harbor County Board of Health do?

Local boards of health have “supervision over all matters pertaining to the preservation of the life and health of the people within its jurisdiction” (RCW 70.05.060).

The Grays Harbor County Board of Health:

  1. supervises all matters pertaining to the preservation of life and health of the people within Grays Harbor County;
  2. enforces the public health statutes of the state and rules promulgated by the state board of health and the secretary of health;
  3. supervises the maintenance of all health and sanitary measures for the protection of the public health within Grays Harbor County;
  4. enacts such local rules and regulations as are necessary in order to preserve, promote and improve the public health and provide for the enforcement thereof;
  5. provides for the control and prevention of any dangerous, contagious or infectious disease within Grays Harbor County;
  6. provides for the prevention, control and abatement of nuisances detrimental to the public health;
  7. makes such reports to the state board of health through the local health officer or the administrative officer as the state board of health may require; and
  8. establishes fee schedules for issuing or renewing licenses or permits or for such other services as are authorized by the law and the rules of the state board of health.

The Board of Health also appoints a health officer (RCW 70.05.040). The role of the Health Officer is to act under the direction of the Board of Health (RCW 70.05.070).

Who serves on the Grays Harbor County Board of Health?

The three elected county commissioners serve as the Board of Health (RCW 70.05.030), along with four non-elected members: One consumer of public health; one community stakeholder; one health care provider, public health or health care facilities professional; and one tribal representative.
